Longer-Term Health and Economic Effects of COVID-19
The NBER Center for Aging and Health Research, which is supported by the National Institute on Aging, will host a virtual conference on the long-run consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic on Friday February 2, 2024, from 1:00-5:00pm EST. This meeting will be organized by NBER affiliates Gopi Shah Goda and Maria Polyakova of Stanford University. It will showcase new research analyzing the longer-term impacts of COVID-19. Studies on the following topics are particularly welcome:
- the impacts of COVID-19 illness, including “long COVID,” on long-term health and economic outcomes for affected individuals;
- the lasting health and economic effects of pandemic-induced disruptions in employment, education, health care delivery, and economic activity more generally;
- disparities across socio-economic and demographic groups in the long-run effects of COVID-19. The organizers will also consider submissions on other related topics.
Papers by early career scholars, researchers with and without NBER affiliations, and researchers from under-represented groups are welcome. In addition to featuring completed papers, the organizers may also include several shorter presentations of work in progress. Submissions, either complete papers or works in progress with a clear label to indicate that they are incomplete, must be uploaded using this upload link by midnight EST on Wednesday, December 6, 2023.
Please do not submit research that will be published by February 2024. Questions about this meeting may be directed to the NBER conference department, confer@nber.org.
